Session includes:

  • Understanding the principles of First Aid and the responsibilities of the first aider
  • Legal and ethical issues
    • Infection control
    • Demonstrate:
      • steps of the DRSABCD Action Plan
      • caring for an unconscious casualty
      • performing CPR (on both an adult and infant manikin)
      • using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Assessment (both undertaken in the classroom)

  • Theory questionnaire
  • Practical demonstration of skills

 On being assessed competent, students are issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised Unit of Competency, HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) www.resus.org.au recommends the CPR competency be re-certified annually.
