Understanding Mental Health

Recognising and appropriately responding to depression, anxiety and other mental health problems both inside and outside the workplace can reduce the negative impacts these issues may cause for employees, teams and workplaces. CHG offer a short course, providing participants with a basic understanding of mental illness and introducing the principles of Mental Health First Aid.

Participants will learn:

  • Basics of mental illness
  • What Mental Health First Aid is and its role in the workplace
  • Practical application of Mental Health First Aid for:
    • Depression
    • Anxiety
    • Substance abuse
    • Suicidal ideation
  • Risk factors
  • How to identify warning signs

Supplementary training for managers and supervisors is also available. Training topics can include:

  • Understanding the impact of mental health problems in the workplace
  • How to identify the ways in which stress impacts people
  • Common triggers
  • How to manage individuals experiencing mental health issues

Psychological Wellbeing

Our psychological health and wellbeing training programs can complement your other psychological programs, including your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and critical incident response service. Building Resilience

Every job has its own stress factors, with common triggers including an increasing workload, conflicts between colleagues, dealing with organisational change and managing emotionally challenging situations. Learning how to be resilient can enable you and your team to better handle such day-to-day stressors and ‘bounce back’ after challenges. CHG offer a short course, which explores practical techniques in building resilience and how to deal with stress in a healthy manner.

Depending on duration, the session will include:

  • Information about resilience and the difference between stress and distress
  • Symptoms of stress, personal triggers and developing skills to improve your capacity to ‘bounce back’
  • Common factors that cause life imbalance
  • How to balance your lifestyle, including wellbeing strategies for work, life and spirit
  • How to build your emotional intelligence
  • How to build your own Personal Resilience Action Plan

Supplementary training relevant to leadership roles with a focus on building resilient and successful teams is also available.

Ergonomics at Work

Poor ergonomics, posture and manual handling in the office can lead to a range of issues, including lowered productivity, worker discomfort and work-related injuries. CHG offer ergonomics training specifically designed for office workers. This training provides you and your employees with an understanding of ergonomics and how to identify and remedy issues within your own workstation or behaviours.

Manual Handling and Manual Task Safety

Improper methods of manual handling and manual tasks are common causes of musculoskeletal injuries in the workplace. CHG can help protect your team by providing your employees with knowledge and practical skills on how to conduct workplace procedures safely.

  • Basic work health and safety responsibilities
  • Core principles of safe manual handling (including the risk control hierarchy)
  • The application of these principles through examples relevant to their duties

Toolbox Talk: Warm Up and Stretching

Many work-related injuries can be avoided if workers physically prepare themselves for demanding activities. Warming up and stretching prior to undertaking physical work will reduce the risk of strains and sprains on muscles and ligaments. CHG offer a Toolbox Talk, which provides participants with practical strategies in work health and safety.

Depending on the duration you choose, participants will learn:

  • Basic work health and safety responsibilities
  • Fundamentals of manual handling, manual task safety and the risk control hierarchy
  • Personal responsibilities to be physically prepared for work demands
  • How to prevent sprains and strains with appropriate stretches and warm ups
  • How to improve core stability through simple exercises
  • How to prepare for work demands by warming up
